SpaceWire and IEEE 1355
Network technology from 4Links offers spectacular benefits. Bandwidth, already 200Mbits/s in each direction per link in our products, can be increased just by adding extra links. Redundant paths can be connected to give fault-tolerance, and many concurrent communications at the same time means less interference and improved response compared with bus-based systems. The scalability, robustness and responsiveness are ideal for the space industry and SpaceWire is being used on an increasing number of science and commercial missions.
4Links products
4Links supplies a range of interface products, packet routing switches, intellectual property, software and development tools for SpaceWire and IEEE 1355.
Interfaces to SpaceWire and IEEE 1355 include PCI, Compact PCI, RS232, USB and Video (CCIR 601/656, PAL/NTSC, camera and display), with Ethernet and CardBus in development. Packet routing switches include a 4-port boxed router and an 8-port PCB reference design of a router with an internal bandwidth of 4Gbits/s. Intellectual property includes a variety of SpaceWire and IEEE 1355 macrocells, all the interfaces, packet routing switches with any number of ports, and the network management system we have developed for SpaceWire. While 4Links board products are restricted to ground segment use, IP is offered for flight use either in FPGA or ASIC.
4Links consultancy and collaboration
With a wide range of IP already developed for SpaceWire, 4Links can be highly effective in adapting this IP to particular customer requirements. We have developed a number of PCB designs under consultancy contracts, and, as well as patenting inventions ourselves, have made inventions that clients are patenting. We are particularly interested in consultancy work on the "Rad-Hard by Design" and the fault tolerance capabilities of SpaceWire. Also in work that extends the application space of SpaceWire, provides bridges to other standards such as CAN and 1553, and that evolves the standard to higher speeds and lighter cable mass.
